Carrying Kanali’s Light Forward
Kanali’s Cause began with a promise to speak out against animal cruelty and honor the lives of Kanali and her pasture mate, Catori.
Kanali’s life was tragically cut short, but her story became an important part of why Solstice Sanctuary exists today. Her name means “Sun,” and Kanali continues to be a reminder of the responsibility we have to protect animals, advocate for their welfare, and give them the care and safety they deserve.
Each October, in recognition of National Animal Safety and Protection Month, we honor that promise through Kanali’s Cause Month.

Throughout the month, there are many ways to get involved, from events and volunteer opportunities to fundraisers that directly support the animals of Solstice Sanctuary. Together, we can honor Kanali and Catori by continuing the work their lives inspired.
Fall Farm Volunteer Day
Join us for a volunteer day at Solstice Sanctuary as we prep the farm for colder weather! Activities include cleaning stalls and outdoor enclosures, organizing and restocking feed areas, washing and organizing supplies, repairing fencing and infrastructure, and more!
Online Basket Auction
Solstice Sanctuary’s Online Basket Auction returns October 12–31 for Kanali’s Cause Month! Bid on themed baskets and experiences while raising funds to support the animals of Solstice Sanctuary.
Solstice Sanctuary Fall Tour
Join us for a guided tour of Solstice Sanctuary. You'll learn how the Sanctuary was founded, walk the farm grounds, and meet the animals who live here. We’ll share their stories, offer a chance to feed treats, and talk about the healing work that happens between people, animals, and the land.
